If you ask Northern Superior Resources President and CEO, Dr. Tom Morris, what sets his company apart from the competition, he would tell you there are three main factors – “Our people, the locations of our assets, and the opportunities.”
Northern Superior is an exploration stage company that identifies, evaluates, acquires and explores mostly gold properties in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Québec. “Our company uses a vast geoscientific database to identify worthwhile opportunities. We advance these projects through discovery using a unique approach to exploration with the intent of either optioning, joint venturing or selling the asset,” explains Morris. At this time, Northern Superior is focused on two Canadian gold assets, both fully owned by the company – the Lac Surprise property in Québec and Ti-pa-haa-kaa-ning (TPK) in northwestern Ontario.
About his people, Morris says, “Not only has this team of geoscientists and management experts put forward the excellent mineral exploration opportunities that the company is currently focused on, it also had the foresight to develop an exceptional geoscientific database (nearly a terabyte in size) capable of identifying the next generation of mineral exploration opportunities.”
Morris also speaks with great passion about the two mineral assets Northern Superior is currently focused on. “These projects are based on high quality geoscience and are located within politically friendly jurisdictions. These are locations that have long and successful histories of mineral exploration and mining activity.” The TPK property is a gold, silver and copper opportunity located approximately 50 kilometres east of the famed ‘Ring of Fire.’ Northern Superior recently announced (February 14) that it has initiated a 5,000 metre core drill program on this property. “We are pleased to have this opportunity to pursue our newly designed exploration program on this important and highly prospective property. We look forward to sharing the results of this program with our shareholders and stakeholders over the coming weeks. Although we’ve already made multiple discoveries on this property, the reality is that a strategic partner is required to assist us in moving this large and highly prospective project forward. We are very pleased to have acquired that partner in Yamana Gold”
Meanwhile, Lac Surprise is a gold opportunity within the Chapais-Chibougamau exploration and mining camp. “It contains at least two gold-bearing systems. This shear system extends east and along strike off the property onto IAMGOLD’s Nelligam property, within which IAMGOLD has discovered, and is now developing, a gold deposit.” The property is easily accessible by road and is surrounded by three communities that could support both the exploration and mining stages. Although always open to considering partnerships on any of the Company’s properties, Northern Superior will be initiating a summer exploration program on Lac Surprise once core drilling is completed on its TPK.
Morris studied Geology at the University of Western, Ontario and the university of Alberta. “My education provided me with an incredible appreciation of the earth sciences and the extraordinary people involved with science.” Among the people who influenced Morris’ path was Dr. John England. “He talked me out of my program in soil science and my aspirations of becoming a high school teacher. John introduced me to Quaternary Geology.” As a result, Morris was presented with an opportunity to work in the high Arctic (Prince of Wales Island) through the University of Alberta’s Geography Department and his connection with the Geological Survey of Canada, Dr. Art Dyke.
A passion for exploration and mineral discovery led Morris to a four-decade career in mining. When he first arrived at Northern Superior, the company was known as Superior Diamonds. “Northern Superior was founded as a diamond exploration company in 2002. Following a technical assessment of the area, it became apparent that there were far greater opportunities for multiple successful discoveries in gold rather than diamonds.” In 2007, the company shifted its focus to gold exploration and was renamed Northern Superior Resources.
The biggest challenge so far has proven to be the acquisition of capital for Morris and his team. But Morris says they are making positive strides. “Northern Superior is now positioned to expose the Company’s shareholders to the real potential of wealth creation through meaningful and exciting exploration programs on its 100% owned TPK property in Northwestern Ontario and the Lac Surprise property in west-central Québec, and through the re-organization of the Corporations share structure, Q4 2018/ Q1 2019. This is supported by:
1) The acquisition of a strategic partner (Yamana Gold Inc.) for the TPK property.
2) $1 million (Canadian) financing (Q4, 2018) to support an exploration program on the Lac Surprise property.
3) The completion of a 10:1 consolidation – a necessary and obvious event to execute, ensuring the long- term viability of the Company.”
In addition, Northern Superior continues to seek and acquire strategic partners for the other mineral properties it owns.
