| Afri-Can Marine Minerals Corp. (“Afri-Can”)
is a Canadian exploration and development company,
actively involved in the acquisition, exploration and
development of major mineral properties in Namibia. Afri-Can
is one of the largest marine diamond concession holders
in the area with interests in 25 exploration licenses,
covering 23,500 square kilometers. The northern
concession is located near Luderitz and the southern
concessions are located near the mouth of the Orange
River. The Corporation's large and prospective license
holdings, together with its growth strategy, place it as
the partner of choice for Namibian Empowerment Groups.
Afri-Can’s northern concession, the Woduna (Block J)
concession area, is adjacent to a region where Marine &
Coastal has estimated inferred diamond resources
exceeding 4.25 million carats.
The Woduna (Block J) concession area represents Afri-Can’s
near-term production potential. Analysis of the combined
data from both phase 1 and phase 2 sampling programmes
by the Afri-Can technical team concluded that the
diamondiferous nature of Feature #8, has been confirmed,
and the extent of the mineralization has been well
defined within the area sampled. Follow-up phase 3
sampling is designed to determine the continuity of
mineralization along and across the features, establish
sufficient quantitative data to support an inferred
resource and establish preliminary data on potential
mining economics.
Afri-Can's large southern marine diamond
concession block (the Namibian Gemstones
concessions) is adjacent to De Beers
Marine’s rich concession areas and
represents Afri-Can’s longer-term
project area with the largest potential.
Recent estimates place De Beers’
inferred marine diamond resources at 8
million carats. Afri-Can has a 60%
interest in the Namibian Gemstones
concessions totaling 22,500 square
kilometers. Under an option and joint
venture agreement entered with Namibian
Gemstone Mining Corporation (Pty)
Limited, Afri-Can has the option to
acquire an additional interest of up to
20%. An initial geophysical survey
covering 41% of the concession
identified large areas of eroded bedrock
and abundant features typical of areas
where diamonds are concentrated
elsewhere in the Namibian marine zone.
The Company will initiate a grab
sampling program followed by a detailed
geophysical survey on several priority
areas in order to estimate the size of
the potential resource. In a short
period of time, Afri-Can has succeeded
in consolidating a large and prospective
offshore marine core asset in Namibia,
the world's fifth largest diamond
producer by value. The Company is now
well positioned for an exciting period
of growth and development.
